  2. To me being an american means freedom and rights that others don't have. America is one of the only countries that gives its citizens the right to do what we want with the exception of killing and harming ourselfs and others. In other countries i would not be able to work or walk freely from my home here i can go just about anywhere. My job means the world to me because it shows that i can acomplish things in my life. I don't honetsly know if i could stand to be anywhere else because woman is not respected and treated as well as we are here. So im thankfull to be an american.

  7. What do it mean to me to be an American? It means I am privileged enough to have certain rights you can't get anywhere else. The two main ones for me are the freedom to practice any religion i choose wither it be Christan, Jewish or even Buddhist. My all time favorite right I get for being an American is the freedom of speech. This single right lets me express myself not matter what. No one can take that away from me. I think that's pretty great. People are willing to put their lives on the line to protect me and my fellow citizen. This what being an American means to me.

  11. Being an American means several different things to me. The main reason being I have a lot more freedom then people in other countries. Which I appreciate, and take advantage of. Being American to me also means I have the right to speak my mind. Which is good because I'm a very opiniated person. Americans are also very self centered. And to me that is the definition of an American. Which is bad sometimes. Americans are far different from people in other countries, but in several ways we are better, and worse. But either way I'm proud to be an American.

  13. To me, being an American means freedom and full of choices. A freedom of speech, beliefs and a freedom of choice who I want to be and who I want to be with. Waking up everyday and going to school to learn new different things, to be able to make new friends with different kinds of race, and to be able to see the American flag. That's what being an American means to me.

  15. To be an American to me means that we are free and are so fortunate to even have many of things that we actually have. We have a government who trys to do what is in the best interest of our country. America gives us the freedom to choose members of our own government that will protect us. America gives us the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion. America to me means that we are the most fortunate and most free country and we take some of it for granted. One word that describes what America means to me is "freedom".

  16. I believe that being an American is the best privilege I have ever been given. It is the definition of freedom, and every one of us has the opportunity to do something great with our lives because of all the different things taught to us as we grow up. We are allowed to choose who we want to run our country, who we want to be, what religion we ourselves believe in, and many more amazing rights that a lot of countries don't have. I'm more than thankful for all the things being an American has to offer me, and it's a great thing to say that I am one.

  17. Being an American to me is someone who has major pride for their country. Taking an opportunity to do something that most other countries in our world aren't aloud to do. Voting is a great example countries in the world don't even get to choose who they want to be their president. Women here in America are aloud to wear any type of clothes they desire, but most countries women aren't even aloud to show their face in public. Being and American to me is just taking opportunities that others desire and that is why being an American is so special.

  18. Being an American, in my opinion, is to be able to make your own desicions. You are allowed to do what you want, whenever you feel like it. You are free to decide what is right and what is wrong. You learn from your mistakes and make new ones every day. We do have laws though, and we have to abide by them. Other than that, America is a free country.

  19. To me being an American is standing up for what you believe in, having rights, and living the dream. Our founding fathers started this country in a way different from the rest of the world; a country free of corruption. I believe that has changed over time. The US government runs this country with most of their unconstitutional laws. After the terrorist attacks, former President Bush passed the Patriot Act which allowed the US government to monitor its citizens, therefore no more privacy. So, what is the true American dream? Living in a free country with rights and protection? Or is that only a dream we believe to be true?

  20. Being an American to me is something that most people take for advantage. As Americans, we should be proud of our country, and want people to know we're Americans. But i do not always want to be considered an American. To other countries we are perceived as ignorant pigs. I believe we need to be more like our ancestors before, in such a way, where we are not greedy selfish people who just want for themselves, but one nation under GOD, working together to keep this country free and sane.

  21. I think what it means to be an American is free. Freedom is Americas biggest and most valuable trait. We have the freedom of speach and the freedom of vote. We have the freedom to choose our own paths in life, for better or for worse. I feel these freedoms are what America means to me.

  22. I am very lucky to be american because it means I have rights and freedoms such as voting, freedom of speech, and having privacy, but it makes me wonder how much am I really getting and what is to come of the future? Some people are being watched 24/7 and yeah there are some reasons for the government to do that, like to prevent terrorist attacks, but how do I know if that's all the truth or whether there is going to be a Big Brother? Some people with middle eastern or muslim roots are stereotyped as a threat due to political proaganda, even if they might not be one. Political proaganda not only effects them, but others as well making them feel like they don't they fit or belong due to race and religion even though the constitution, the base of this country, states that all men are created equal. I am very thankful for what I do have but I'm not so sure if I'm proud of this country.

Also in todays time you must be an American to do most of the things here in the U.S such as having the privilige of living here and getting a career not only that but for traveling use too.

  27. Humans need freedom to live better. I came hear because I can get my goals easier. In my country there is religion for country which is Islam and my religion is Baha'i. The government told to citizens in Iran that if your religion is not Islam you don't have rights to live in Iran, have an education and freedom. There is right now about three years that seven Baha’i leaders in Iran are in prison because of what they believe to and about a week ago the government told them that you have to be in prison for twenty years. So, I thought that if I come hear I can have the freedom and education and also there is no one can makes me to I change my religion.

  39. To me being an american is being a proud citizen. Be as patriotic as you can. I mean if you live in the best counrty on earth be proud. I hate when people seem ashamed to be an american because of the times that we are going through with the economy and war situation. Everyone just needs to keep their heads up high and have faith in what our country is doing. Freedom is what america is all about and it will always be that way. People come to america to have the privledges that we take for granted everyday. People come here to start a new life and live the american dream.
